- On October 1, 2019, the Mondriaanhuis in Amersfoort exists 25 years. In that context, the museum organizes the exhibition '25 x 25 x 25'. Twenty-five members of De Ploegh, the famous Dutch artists' association, have created a work of 25 x 25 centimeters especially for this exhibition.
As we know, Mondriaan has undergone a great artistic development in his career. From realistic landscapes, to luministic scenes to total abstraction. It is up to the participating artists to choose by which period or style, or by which ideas of Mondriaan they want to be inspired. 23 members of the Ploegh participate in the exhibition. In addition, two up-and-coming talents were invited to make a work.
About the Ploegh
De Ploegh is a National Artists Society. The association, founded in Amersfoort in 1945, had its gallery in Museum Flehite for many years. After a period in Soest, the association has been established since 2015 in te Cultuurhuis next to theater Flint in Amersfoort.
The artists' association currently has around one hundred members and is still growing. Most artistic disciplines are represented. Famous members include Jaap Hillenius, Jaap Ploos van Amstel, Jan Meefout, Gea Karhof, Jeroen Hermkens and Marcel Schellekens.
Twenty-five years of the Mondriaanhuis
The Mondriaanhuis is the birthplace of Piet Mondriaan. The pioneer of abstract art was born here in 1872 as the son of a head teacher. After the Mondriaan family left for Winterswijk in 1880, the building had a variety of destinations and owners. In 1902, for example, manufacturer Hubers bought the building and set up a cigar and tobacco factory. Since 1994, the Mondriaanhuis has been established as a museum on this historic site. It was architect Leo Heijdenrijk and his wife Cis Heijdenrijk who took the initiative to renovate the building that had fallen into disrepair at the time and to set up the Mondriaanhuis. In 2017, the museum underwent a redesign with which various international prizes were won.
From September 25 to October 31 a.s. various activities will also take place to celebrate the anniversary.
